TWRA Boating Safety Education

No pre-registration required. Any Tennessee resident born after Jan. 1, 1989, must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the TWRA Boating Safety exam. No other certificate will be accepted as meeting the requirements of the law. Please bring Type 600 boating safety exam permit to class. The permit is available from any business (license agent) that sells hunting and fishing licenses (WalMart, sporting goods stores, bait stores, marinas, etc.). Caregiver Self Care

Monday, April 10, 1:00 PM. Cost: Free. Registration deadline: Friday, April 7. Instructor: Melanie Cahill with Choices in Senior Care. This presentation is aimed at caregivers and the importance of self-care in preventing burnout.

Wills, Probates, and Estates, Oh My…
Wednesday, April 12 6:00 PM. Cost: Free. Instructors: Keith Alley and Andrea Anderson. Discover what really happens in probate. We will talk about how your estate plan can help or hurt your loved ones after you’re gone.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Fridays through April 14, 9 AM – 3 PM. No appointment necessary. At no charge, volunteers will complete and e-file IRS tax returns for lower income and senior taxpayers. Sponsored by the Town of Farragut and the Internal Revenue Service.

Social Security Educational Sessions (three-part series)
Wednesdays, April 19, May 17, and June 21. 10 AM – 12 PM. Cost: $65. Instructor: Derek Miser. Mr. Miser is one of three nationally certified instructors endorsed by the National Social Security Association. This two-hour class is designed to address four important benefit areas that all soon-to-be Social Security recipients should be aware of prior to electing their personal benefits. This class is a must for those recipients who are divorced, single, widowed or married. Military veterans should attend and learn about important credits they may not be receiving as part of their current or future social security benefits. Due to the individual and specific nature of benefit calculation each recipient and/or spousal benefit is unique and can affect everyone differently. The goal of this class is to better arm you with the knowledge that specifically effects your decisions on when and how to apply for your personal social security benefits.

Optimist Club of West Knoxville 19th Annual Lawnmower Safety Clinic

Saturday, April 22, 8 AM – 12 PM at Mayor Bob Leonard Park. For 5th – 8th graders, this free clinic covers basic mower maintenance, mower and trimmer safety, etc. An adult must attend the clinic with the participant. Lunch and safety gear provided. On-site registration starts at 8:30 AM, but participants are encouraged to pre-register. Email Sharon Davis at sadavis@utk.edu to receive a registration form via email. Registration forms are also available at Farragut Town Hall and Farragut Lawn and Tractor and should be faxed to 865-215-2933 or mailed to The University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service, 400 Main St., Ste. 560, Knoxville, TN 37902. All participants will be entered to win a new gas powered trimmer!

Eating for Healthy Aging

Fall Prevention

Monday, May 22, 12:30 – 1:30 PM. Cost: Free. Registration deadline: Friday, May. 19. Instructor: Jennifer Aramburo, Walgreens Pharmacy Manager. A light lunch will be provided.

AARP Smart Driving Program

Friday, June 9, 8:30 AM – 5 PM. Cost: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-AARP members. Bring cash or check to the class. Registration deadline: Monday, June 5. Participants must bring their AARP membership card or their membership number to the class to receive the $5 discount. Membership numbers can be obtained by calling 1-888-687-2277. Anyone can attend. Participants must be 55 years of age or older and complete eight hours of class time to be eligible for a discount (up to 10%) on their auto insurance. The program, which is taught by trained AARP volunteers, is designed to cover such topics as age-related physical changes and declining perceptual skills and to serve as a refresher course for the rules of the road, local driving problems and license renewal requirements. Coffee and snacks are provided. Participants should bring a lunch.
