A special “World’s Fair Exhibit” will be on display from Thursday, Feb. 2 through Friday, May 18 during regular Museum hours of Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit will feature a wide variety of items currently in the museum collection as well as items on loan from museum committee members. The display will include items from fair booths representing various countries; a slide show of the exhibitions; and T-shirts, mugs, commemorative beer and other souvenirs saved from the event.

At no charge, volunteers will complete and e-file IRS tax returns for lower income and senior taxpayers. Taxpayers should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2 from employers and form 1099-MISC from clients); interest, dividend, capital gains, pension, IRA and social security statements; list of items that might be considered for itemized deductions (please note that volunteers will NOT prepare returns with Schedule A prior to 2/17/12); support for other income and credits; and a copy of last year’s tax return. Taxpayers should also bring social security numbers and correct birth dates for all taxpayers and dependents to be listed on the return. The museum will host a Black History Month event – “Building the Future with Respect to the Past” – on Sunday, Feb. 26 beginning with a reception at 2 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. presentation. The presentation will include a DVD presentation on the historical Knoxville College by local historian Robert Booker as well as speakers Dr. Horace A. Judson, president of Knoxville College, and Tearsa Smith, reporter for WATE Channel 6. The event is free; light refreshments will be served.

Anthropogenic global warming (AGW) has been an international issue for many years, as represented most publicly by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (UN-IPCC). Reports issued by this panel have indicated that the world is heating up due to carbon monoxide accumulating in the atmosphere, notably caused by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. This presentation will describe the situation as depicted by the UN-IPCC and other AGW supporters. Mayor McGill and Dr. Pasto will discuss topics including earth’s temperature history, the theory of greenhouse effects on climate, and climate models. Mayor McGill holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in mechanical engineering. He retired in 2004 after 26 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mayor McGill continues to work part-time as a consultant in the field of automotive technologies including engines, fuels and emissions and is well-known internationally for his work with alternative and ad

This is an informal meeting open to anyone where the Town's Community Development staff will review development and code related information mainly as it is presented on the Town's web site. A main focus of this meeting will be to receive input on the web site so that any needed changes can be made to ensure that the web page is as effective and user friendly as possible.

These meetings are designed for the development community, including developers, designers, architects and landscape architects, engineers, and surveyors. The Community Development Department staff will work with those in attendance to review the Town’s development process – including the process for obtaining a building permit and working with the Municipal Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals – and get feedback on how to improve the process. The meetings will also include a review of the Town’s website (www.townoffarragut.org) on how to improve the dissemination of information to the development community.
