The Town of Farragut
Stormwater Matters water quality program seeks to provide an exceptional level of environmental stewardship to the community through the protection and maintenance of local water resources in accordance with the
Town of Farragut Stormwater Ordinance.
Background
Water pollution can come from a number of sources. Untreated runoff during and after a rain storm from streets, parking lots, construction sites and private driveway goes directly into storm drains and eventually into our local rivers, streams and lakes. To protect its citizens from this pollution, the Town of Farragut has developed a program that seeks to manage stormwater runoff before the runoff enters Fort Loudoun Lake and its tributaries.
Stormwater management is required by the Environmental Protection Agency (
EPA) under the
Clean Water Act of 1972 and is administered by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (
TDEC) Division of Water Pollution Control. The Town of Farragut has coverage under a Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit (
MS4 Permit), which calls for the Town to reduce the discharge of stormwater pollutants to the maximum extent practicable, to protect water quality, and to satisfy the appropriate water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act. As part of this process the Town of Farragut is required to report it's activity annually to TDEC. Check out our
latest annual report to see how we are doing.
