Campbell Station Road Widening Project to Alter Farragut Primary School Traffic
Thursday July 23, 2009
Due to the Campbell Station Road Widening Project, Knox County Schools has designed a new traffic plan for Farragut Primary School, to be effective for the 2009-10 school year.
A map outlining the new Farragut Primary School Traffic Control Plan shows changes to the entrances and exits, as well as car drop-off points. Due to the construction and the closure of one lane on Campbell Station Road, Knox County Schools is mandating the Traffic Control Plan as the required traffic pattern for those dropping off students at the primary school. The map can be viewed at www.townoffarragut.org and on the Town's government cable channel (Charter & TDS Channel 3).
In addition, the entrance road to Farragut High School off Campbell Station Road will be closed through March 2010. Access to Farragut Intermediate, Middle and High Schools will be available from West End Avenue and Lendon Welch Way (formerly Stadium Drive) off Kingston Pike. Knox County Schools is encouraging Farragut parents to consider using bus transportation for their students to eliminate extra car traffic. For more information on the bus routes to Farragut schools, please visit www.knoxschools.org.
The Campbell Station Road Widening Project, which will take approximately 15 months to complete, will widen Campbell Station Road from the existing three-lane section to a five-lane section (two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane). In addition, the project will include a four-foot bike lane, curb and gutter, and a five-foot sidewalk on each side. The project is being conducted by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and is funded by the Surface Transportation Program (part of the Federal Highway Administration SAFETEA-LU); Federal Highway Priority Project; and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus funds).
Routine project updates will be announced in Farragut's local media, at www.townoffarragut.org and on the Town's government cable channel (Charter and TDS Channel 3). Citizens are also encouraged to receive updates via the Town's Facebook page (Town of Farragut) and Twitter (townoffarragut). Please contact the Town of Farragut at 865-966-7057 with additional questions or concerns.
