Freaky Friday Fright Nite to Provide Safe Fun, Benefit Ronald McDonald House
Tuesday October 06, 2009
Oct. 6, 2009
Calling all ghosts and goblins! The Town of Farragut will host the 13th annual Freaky Friday Fright Nite on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Mayor Bob Leonard Park on Watt Road. The event will provide a safe place for children to participate in Halloween activities while benefiting the Knoxville Ronald McDonald House.
Children age 12 and under and in costume are invited to "trick or treat" around the walk trail at the park. Local businesses, community groups and Town volunteers will hand out the treats, provide games with prizes, assist with cookie decorating and serve refreshments.
The Town has partnered with the Knoxville Ronald McDonald House each year of the event since 2000 in order to collect essential items that the House needs to continue day-to-day operations. The Ronald McDonald House provides a "home away from home" for families with critically ill children being served by area hospitals and depends on community donations to operate. Families are provided all services for a nominal fee or for free of charge if they are not able to pay.
"We're delighted to partner with the Town of Farragut for this wonderful, family friendly event," said Sue Beverly, Director of the Knoxville Ronald McDonald House. "We're delighted as well to be the recipients of the bounty of household goods that are donated to our ‘House that love built.' It's such an easy and fun way to touch the lives of families in need."
While Freaky Friday Fright Nite is a free event, participants are asked to donate one of the following items for the House: grocery or hardware store gift cards (Walmart, Food City, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.), phone cards, postage stamps, all sizes of garbage bags, individually wrapped snacks (granola bars, chips, etc.), air freshener spray, paper towels, laundry detergent, gallon size zip lock bags, hand soap and hand sanitizer pump bottles, and Lysol spray cleaner. Collection stations will be located at two areas: next to the cookie decorating station and next to the entrance from the Harrison Road parking lot.
