Boards, Committees & Volunteer Opportunitites
The Town of Farragut takes pride in the volunteer spirit that thrives in its citizens. Numerous volunteer opportunities are available to citizens who would like to play a role in meeting the needs of this community. The personal time, expertise and untiring efforts contributed by the Town's citizens make a significant impact on Farragut's success and high quality of life.
Boards and Committees
The Town currently has 11 standing committees, councils, boards or commissions, which contribute to the success of the Town through various areas. These citizen volunteers share in the pride of Farragut's accomplishments. All citizen committees are appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen with the exception of the Farragut Municipal Planning Commission, which is appointed by the Mayor. Appointments are made by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in late May and early June of each year. Please watch the farragutpress and Knoxville News Sentinel, stay tuned to the Town's government access channel (Charter cable channel 3), check the Town's website or call the Town Hall for more information about committee applications and deadlines.

This is a great way to share your time, talents and enthusiasm with the Farragut community. Please note - these are working committees. Applicants should be willing to give time to monthly meetings and committee projects or events.
Community members can apply for a position on one of the following committees by completing an application and returning it to the Town Hall by Friday, May 2. Applications and information about each of the committees is available by calling 966-7057, at www.townoffarragut.org or at the Town Hall information center. Some committees require a background in a professional area and this information is indicated in the information sheet attached to the application. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will begin the committee selection process at their stated meeting on May 22. Appointments will be made for the following committees: Arts Council, Board of Plumbing and Gas/Mechanical Examiners, Beautification Committee, Board of Zoning Appeals, Folklife Museum Committee, Parks and Athletics Council, Personnel Committee, Stormwater Advisory Committee and the Visual Resources Review Board.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
ADOPT A MILE PROGRAM - Volunteers from businesses, civic clubs, churches, neighborhood associations, scouts, school groups, families and other organizations adopt a mile of a Farragut road. Participants must be at least 11 years of age, sign a liability release form (parents must sign for minor children) and watch a safety video before the first scheduled pickup. Groups adopting the mile agree to clean the road at least once a quarter for a two-year period. The Town agrees to place two signs identifying the group that has adopted that mile and to provide all safety equipment and supplies for the cleanup.
ADOPT A GREENWAY PROGRAM - Patterned after the Adopt A Mile Program, the Adopt A Greenway Program is a wonderful way for organizations with younger children to be part of a community clean-up effort. Sections of the Town=s three main greenways are available under similar guidelines as the Adopt A Mile Program - a group, individual or family agrees to clean that section of the greenway for a one-year period. The Town will provide all the necessary supplies and will identify the adopting group with a two-sided sign located on that section of the greenway.
ADOPT-A-STREAM PROGRAM - Annual responsibilities for adopting groups include conducting a stream walk, three stream watches, a pipe and drainage ditch inventory (if applicable) and two stream clean-ups. The group coordinator will attend a four-hour training to learn Adopt-A-Stream protocols and then will coordinate their implementation. The Town will provide supplies, signage, technical guidance and maintenance of documentation of the group's efforts. This program operates under the auspices of the Water Quality Forum, a consortium of agencies, organizations, schools, businesses and citizens working to protect and restore our regional waterways.
FUN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM - Farragut=s Unsung Navy (FUN) Volunteer Program is a unique municipal program of more than 135 volunteers who give time to the Town in many different forms. Volunteers serve as docents in the Farragut Folklife Museum, hosts in the museum gift shop, auxiliary staff to the various Town departments, volunteers with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and as volunteer staff at many leisure services events.
The FUN Volunteer Program is continually expanding the use of volunteers in many departments when a skill or need is presented. FUN Volunteers accumulate hours toward a Arank@ in the FUN Navy and are rewarded for their efforts at a holiday tea and a yearly banquet.
EAGLE SCOUT/GOLD AWARD/COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROJECTS - Eagle Scout and Gold Award candidates and individuals, schools or organizations seeking community volunteer projects receive assistance from Town staff in identifying potential projects in Town parks, greenways or other publicly-owned land. This includes donations of time, materials and/or monies for a range of projects from park benches to greenway maps.
For information about the following volunteer opportunities, please call the Leisure Services Department or the Engineering Department (Adopt-A-Stream) at (865) 966-7057.
