Congratulations to Scott Brewer for Winning the Edward C. Archer Young Public Works Leader of The Year Award!
The Engineering Department provides supervision and technical assistance to the Town on various projects and services relating to public facilities and serves as staff support to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Services provided by the Engineering Department include the following:
Road Construction Projects - Engineering staff work closely with consultants and contractors in the design and construction of roads, including right of way acquisition and utility coordination. Copies of the Town's Capital Improvements Plan for the next five years are available upon request. Contact the Town Hall for more information.
Park Construction Projects - Engineering staff oversee construction of park improvements such as restroom construction, field improvements and park development.
Pavement Management - The Engineering staff oversee the resurfacing of streets within the Town, including recommendation of streets to be resurfaced (based upon thorough inspections, with assistance of our in-house database of street and road conditions), as well as administration of the resurfacing contract and inspection of the work by contractors. A resurfacing schedule is approved annually by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and implemented in the fall construction season each year.
Review of Commercial Developments and Subdivision Plats - Site plans and subdivision plats are reviewed to ensure they are in compliance with the Town's engineering regulations. Additionally, the Engineering staff provide inspections of the construction of public infrastructure such as subdivision streets and drainage systems.
Drainage Improvements - The Board of Mayor and Aldermen has adopted a drainage improvement program in which the Town and Farragut citizens share the cost of improvements. Details about how the costs are split and the process for approval are available at the Town Hall upon request.
GIS - The Farragut Geographic Information System (GIS) provides a planning and engineering tool that allows users to quickly and easily view a variety of data including topography, pavement, traffic, stormwater, land use, flood, property and commercial and residential development concerning Farragut.
Stormwater Program/NPDES - As an NPDES Phase II community, the Town is dedicated to improving water quality in our creeks through in-house and community education programs, construction oversight and a variety of activities designed to involve both adult and student participation. The Town's Engineering staff oversees the Stormwater Program and provides support to the Stormwater Advisory Committee. Visit our Stormwater Matters page for more information.
Traffic Management Program - Engineering staff make recommendations to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen about safety improvements (i.e. traffic calming) within Farragut subdivisions upon request. Guidelines for this program are available by calling the Town Hall.
