Farragut's Unsung Navy (FUN) Volunteer Program
Farragut's Unsung Navy (FUN) Volunteer Program is a unique municipal program of more than 100 volunteers who give time to the Town in many different forms. Volunteers serve as docents in the Farragut Museum, hosts in the museum gift shop, auxiliary staff to the various Town departments, volunteers with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and as volunteer staff at many recreation events.
The FUN Volunteer Program is continually expanding the use of volunteers in many departments when a skill or need is presented. FUN volunteers accumulate hours toward a rank in the FUN Volunteer Program and are rewarded for their efforts at a holiday breakfast and a yearly banquet. Volunteer CommitteesEach year in June, the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen appoints citizens to serve on advisory committees, councils and boards. This is a great way to share your time, talents and enthusiasm with the Farragut community. Please note - these are working committees. Applicants should be willing to give time to monthly meetings and committee projects or events.
Eagle Scout and Gold Award candidates and individuals, schools, or organizations seeking community volunteer projects receive assistance from Town staff in identifying potential projects in Town parks, greenways, or other publicly owned land. This includes donations of time, materials, and/or monies for a range of projects from park benches to greenway maps. Please contact the Leisure Services Department by emailing Sue Stuhl at with your project ideas and details. Adopt A Programs
Adopt A Mile Program
Volunteers from businesses, civic clubs, churches, neighborhood associations, scouts, school groups, families, and other organizations adopt a mile of a Farragut road. Participants must be at least 11 years of age, sign a liability release form (parents must sign for minor children), and watch a safety video before the first scheduled pick-up. Groups adopting the mile agree to clean the road at least once a quarter for a two-year period. The Town agrees to place two signs identifying the group that has adopted that mile and to provide all safety equipment and supplies for the cleanup.

Adopt A Greenway Program
The Adopt A Greenway Program is a wonderful way for organizations with younger children to be part of a community cleanup effort. Sections of the Town's three main greenways are available under similar guidelines as the Adopt-A-Mile Program - a group, individual, or family agrees to clean that section of the greenway at least once a quarter for a one-year period. The Town will provide all the necessary supplies and will identify the adopting group with a two-sided sign located on that section of the greenway.

Annual responsibilities for adopting groups include conducting a stream walk, three stream watches, a pipe and drainage ditch inventory (if applicable), and two stream cleanups. The group coordinator will attend a four-hour training to learn Adopt-A-Stream (AAS) protocols and then will coordinate their implementation. The Town will provide supplies, signage, technical guidance, and maintenance of documentation of the group's efforts.
This program operates under the auspices of the Water Quality Forum, a consortium of agencies, organizations, schools, businesses and citizens working to protect and restore our regional waterways. Neighborhood Cleanup Program
Farragut neighborhoods can borrow the Town’s cleanup equipment – including vests, pickers and trash bags – for their neighborhood cleanup days. A neighborhood representative should contact Brittany Spencer by email or at 218-3378 to reserve the equipment 72 hours prior to the scheduled cleanup event and will be required to return within two days of the event. Neighborhoods will be responsible for disposing of the used trash bags.
Outdoor ClassroomOpened in fall 2014, the Outdoor Classroom and water quality demonstration space is located at N. Campbell Station Road and the entrance to Farragut High School. The Outdoor Classroom is meant to provide diverse, hands-on learning opportunities and is open to individuals or community groups interested in implementing service learning projects. Examples of completed or upcoming projects include ADA accessible planters and tables, rain garden installation and seasonal grass demonstrations. The new Trail Volunteer Program is a partnership between the City of Knoxville, Knox County, the Town of Farragut, Ijams Nature Center and Outdoor Knoxville. Interested volunteers complete an application and background check before attending a training session. Volunteers receive a complimentary T-shirt and jacket to wear while they serve. Key volunteer responsibilities are to greet, inform and assist users of the Town’s four main greenways (Grigsby Chapel, McFee, Parkside and Turkey Creek). AmeriCorps Water Quality Assistant, Full-Time Service Opportunity
The Town of Farragut’s Stormwater Matters program has partnered with AmeriCorps and the Knoxville CAC to engage an AmeriCorps member in a year of National service devoted to enhancing the TOF’s water quality program and protecting our communities aquatic resources.
